Where is my money?

Please allow 3 to 5 business days from the date you sent us your money for NorthStar Currency to receive it. Our system will notify you by email when the funds have been received. Please keep in mind that your educational institution may take several business days to update the status of your billing record after they receive your payment from NorthStar Currency.

Do you charge any fees?

When transferring money, your bank (all banks), will charge a sending fee (sometimes called a wire fee) for their service. Unfortunately, this is out of our control.

Paying through NorthStar Currency gives you the ability to pay in your home currency. NorthStar Currency doesn’t charge any fees on payments made in your home currency.

Which currency exchange rate will be applied to my payment?

Exchange rates change every second and are unpredictable! The rate shown to you by NorthStar is guaranteed provided your funds reach us within 72 hours.

Occasionally students will tell us they have found lower exchange rates quoted on websites like YahooFinance, Xe.com, and Bloomberg. It is important to note that  quotes provided by these media sources are “mid-market” rates which are not available for individuals, but rather are the published rates for currency purchases over $1 million US dollars.

My local currency is not available

There are some currencies that we do not offer presently, but we are constantly adding new currencies to pay in. If your local currency is not available, we offer the option to pay in USD or EUR which are widely used. This allows you to take advantage of NorthStar Currency’s service which include: eliminating hidden bank fees to ensure your institution receives the correct amount, and tracking your payment online.

Do you need my bank account information?

No, NorthStar Currency does not ask for your bank account information. We will provide you our account details so you can send funds from your local bank account to ours.

Where is my money?

How long will it take for money to arrive at the institution?

The time for your payment to reach your educational institutions bank account will vary depending on the country and payment method that you select.

When NorthStar Currency receives your funds, an email will be sent to you.

Some institutions may take several business days to update a student´s account statement. If your student account statement has not been updated with your payment, contact your educational institution for additional status information.

Do you need my bank account information?

Do I have to fill out the payment request form every time that I send money?

Yes, it is very important to create a payment within the NorthStar system each time you send a payment. Once you create a payment request through our site, a new “Payment ID” will be automatically generated. Each payment will be identified with a unique payment ID that will be used for tracking purposes.

Is there any cost to sign up?

No. Signing up with us is completely free.

How do I pay for my trade?

NorthStar Currency accepts wire transfers and Internet Bill payment from major Canadian banks.

Do I need to have Internet Banking with my existing bank?

No. NorthStar Currency does not require any special services to be activated with your existing bank.

What rate will I get?

We offer Corporate exchange rates to students. Our exchange rates are based on the “Interbank” rate which is the live currency market rate. In contrast to this, banks typically offer what are effectively tourist exchange rates even on large sums of money. NorthStar Currency offers rates that are considerably better than these.

REMEMBER – There are no wire or transfer fees with NorthStar Currency, unlike with the banks (which charge upwards of $80).

How can you offer such good prices?

Because of the millions we trade each month, we can buy currency at wholesale prices and, unlike banks, we pass these prices on to our clients. The rest is down to efficiency – we invest heavily in technology to enable us to serve our clients better.

When can I book a trade?

NorthStar Currency processes trades between 08:00 and 16:30 EST, Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays in Canada.

Once I have paid, how is the currency transferred?

Once your funds have cleared in our client account, we will send your foreign currency by wire to the account you have specified to us.

What fees will I be charged?

We charge no fees at all. The receiving bank may charge a nominal incoming wire fee.

What is the smallest amount I can exchange?

The smallest size of transaction we can undertake is $5000 Canadian or equivalent. Please note that NorthStar Currency never accepts cash payments.

How long until I can access the converted funds?

Processing time depends on how you send us the funds to be converted and how the converted funds are delivered. Common time ranges are below:

IMPORTANT – Possible Delaying Factors 
Wires sent to or from certain jurisdictions may take extra time. This is beyond our control. Wires to or from Continental Europe typically take 2 to 2 extra business days.
